AMBAZONIAN WAR: Exchange of Fire at the University of Bamenda
The University of Bamenda is expected to begin the graduation ceremony
Deafening shots were heard from Bambili and Bambui, two towns close to Bamenda, the capital of the northwest. The gunshots that began around 8:30 am are still in progress, 90 minutes before the graduation ceremony at the University of Bamenda.
The University of Bamenda is expected to begin the graduation ceremony of its 8th group of students, Saturday, December 8, 2018. The inhabitants of Bambili, where the graduation should take place, report a tense atmosphere characterized by gunfire deafening. Some parents have already ordered their children to boycott the event by citing security concerns.
A source had previously suggested that improvised explosive devices had been planted at strategic locations at the event site to disrupt the event. Fighting took place between regular government soldiers and pro-independence fighters in the two English-speaking regions following a request for state restoration of the former British Southern Kingdom.
